Governor 2010-2011

George R. Camp

  

George Camp has been a Rotarian dedicated to the ideals of Rotary since becoming a member of the Rotary Club of Ossining, New York. George has served in all capacities and on the board in the 29 years as a member. He served as President in 1987, and during his year he the Club to an all time high in fundraising by raising over $28,000 that year, of which $16,000 went to Polio Plus. George was awarded his first Paul Harris Fellow in 1998 and is presently a Major Donor and member of the Paul Harris Society. He has also been award the Rotarian of the Year multiple times by his club, Rotarian of the Year by the District and he received the Service Above Self Award from Rotary International.

On the District level, he has served as Area Representative; District Coordinator; District Conference Co-Chairman; Assistant Governor Area II; Director of Community Service; Co-Chairman District Membership Development Committee; Co-Chairman District Membership Seminar; Assistant District Trainer; Sub Committee Chairman Polio Plus; Sub Committee Chairman Annual Giving; District Rotary Foundation Committee; Committee Member Multi-District Foundation Seminar; Governor’s Aide and NID (National Immunization Day) Volunteer. George is also a faculty member for Rotary Leadership Institute of Northeast America.

George’s passion is Polio Plus. He has served as a NID Volunteer in Bangladesh and Nigeria. He helped immunize hundreds of children against Polio and visited countless homes in the slums with local health care workers. He has lectured around the District on the great work Rotarians throughout the world have done in these areas and the need to support The Rotary Foundation so we can continue this fine work.

George is the owner and licensed Director of Dorsey Funeral Home, Inc. located in Ossining. He received his AAS in Mortuary Science from the State University of Farmingdale where he was the President of Phi Theta Kappa and the Director of the College Tutoring Program.

He has also been involved with various civic organizations including President of the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce; President of the Ossining Area Jaycees; District Director New York State Jaycees Region 10 District 4; Village of Ossining Public Relations Committee; Village of Ossining Planning Board; Village of Ossining 175th Anniversary Celebration committee Chairman.

George has been honored as Ossining Citizen of the Year; Village of Ossining Proclamation ”George R. Camp Day”; Town of Ossining Proclamation, “George R. Camp Day” and a Westchester County Proclamation, “George R. Camp Day.”

George has two sons Brendon age 18 and Evan age 16 who are both members of Interact.
