Amended Notice For
Nominations for District Governors for
2020-2021 and 2021-2022, And
For District Treasurer For 2019-2021
This Notice amends and replaces the District’s earlier Notice of September 14, 2018.  This is necessitated by the ascension of Rtn. Mahbub Ahmad as District Governor Elect (DGE), which left open the positions of District Governor Nominee (DGN) and District Governor Nominee Designee (DGND).
Rotary District 7230 is a seeking nominations for (a) District Governor for 2020-2021 (DGN), and (b) District Governor for 2021-2022 (DGND); and (c) District Treasurer for 2019- 2021 (two year term).  Set forth below are the qualifications for, and the procedure for selection of, all three officers.
District Governors
One of the most important decisions we make in our District is choosing its future leadership.  The District seeks the most qualified person for the position of District Governor. 
The District Governor is an officer of Rotary International nominated by the Clubs of a District and elected at a Rotary International convention. The District Governor’s term of office begins on 1 July and continues for one year or until a successor is elected and qualified.
Rotary International and our Manual of Administrative Procedure require that a District Governor have the following qualifications:
  1. Be a member in good standing in a Club in the District.
  2. Have full qualifications for such membership in the strict application of the provisions therefore, and the integrity of the Rotarian’s classification must be without question.
  3. Be a member in good standing that has no outstanding indebtedness to RI or to the District as of the close of the year preceding that in which the Rotarian is proposed as a candidate for nomination for District Governor.
  4. Have served as President of a Club for a full year.
  5. Demonstrate willingness, commitment and ability, physically and otherwise, to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the office of District Governor. 
  6. At the time of taking office as District Governor, the elected District Governor must have been a member of Rotary in one or more Clubs for seven years and must have attended the Governors-elect training seminar and International Assembly.

District Treasurer
            The District Treasurer is essentially the District’s chief financial officer, and as such, is  responsible for maintaining the District’s financial records, and collection and disbursement of all District monies, in accordance with RI rules, the District Manual of Administrative Procedure, and all applicable State and federal laws.  See Section 1 of our Manual of Administrative Procedure, which is posted on the District’s Internet Site -,
            Applications for each of the three positions – DGN, DGND, and District Treasurer - must be submitted on or before December 15, 2018
            The application should be in the form of a letter to the District Governor stating why the applicant is interested in serving and describing your qualifications.  It shall be signed by the applicant and the Secretary of his/her Club that states that the Club, at a Club Assembly endorsed his/her application.  Applicants may attach a curriculum vita as well. The letter or curriculum vitae must show all Club and District offices and past accomplishments and any other information relevant to the position applied for.
            The completed application must be sent by
(a) U.S. mail addressed to DG K. Chittur, 340 South State Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY  10510; and

No application received after December 15, 2018, will be considered.  A conforming application received by Email on time will be accepted, as long as the US mail posted original is received by the District Governor shortly thereafter. Receipt will be promptly acknowledged by Email.  If you do not receive a prompt acknowledgement please contact the District Governor.
No Campaigning
            It is Rotary International’s and District 7230’s policy that there shall be no campaigning for election to District Governor.  Any such attempts at campaigning shall be promptly reported to the District Governor and/or the District Counsel, and will lead to summary disqualification of the applicant.
Nomination Committee
            The Nomination Committee shall be comprised of one Area Representative from each of the seven Areas of the District, and two members selected by the Advisory Council of Past District Governors.
            The Area Representatives (a) should be Rotarians in good standing and (b) have at least three years of membership in a Rotary club, and (c) should not have previously served in a Nomination Committee.  
            For selecting the Area Representatives, the Assistant Governor for each of the District Areas shall, in consultation with the District Counsel, confer with the Club Presidents in his/her Area to discuss candidates and alternates for the Nominating Committee and to decide on the Nominator who shall represent his/her Area and the alternate Nominator.
            The Chair of the Advisory Council of Past District Governors shall submit the names of two Past District Governors selected by that Council to serve as voting members of the Nominating Committee to the District Counsel, copy to the District Governor.
            By December 1, 2018, each Assistant Governor shall inform the District Counsel, with copy to the District Governor, of the name of the Representative from his/her Area and the name of the alternate Representative.   This shall be accompanied by a letter/email from each of the Club Presidents in the respective Area confirming the selections of the Representative and the alternate.
            The Chair of the Advisory Council of Past District Governors shall also submit the names of the two Past District Governors by December 1, 2018.
December 1, 2018:  Nominating Committee Representatives to be Submitted by Assistant Governors and by Chair, PDG Council.

December 15, 2018:  Applications for DGN, DGND and District Treasurer due.
January 5, 2019, 11 a.m. – Candidate Interview
              The Nominating Committee will interview each candidate on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at a place to be determined.   Each applicant for any of the three positions shall be duly informed of the same, together with the time of his or her interview.   Should applicants come in earlier than his or her time, there will be a place to sit and wait. It is better to be early than late.  
              All interviews will have a time restriction declared by the District Governor, who will personally supervise this event.  All deliberations of the Nominating Committee are confidential.  After the interviews are complete, the Nominating Committee will by majority vote select the candidate for the three positions, and inform the District Governor of its decision by January 6, 2019.
              Each applicant will be promptly informed of the result.  Applicants not selected by the Nominating Committee can apply in another year.
