Susanne Gellert of Wall Street Rotary paid a visit to the Bernard Nordkamp Center, Namibia to follow up on a donation made to them through the generosity of Fellow Rotarians and her own initiative.

The Story:

"I went to Namibia in January to support the Bernard Nordkamp Centre, a day-care centre, where orphans and other vulnerable children receive not only a warm meal but also education and enjoy sports, crafts and educational games:

http://www.thebncnamibia.com The Director of the BNC is Marybeth Gallagher, a Rotarian, who came to our Club 5 years ago as a speaker. She and her story were so inspiring that ever since I met her I had wanted to visit her and those amazing children and find a way to support them.

I asked all my friends, other people like Rotarian friends and colleagues to join a small fundraiser I organized at a small bar, in order to help to enhance the lives of those children and to avoid the vicious circle of no education - no job - no money - no education for the next children.

My message was that even if it is just a small donation it makes a difference. Every dollar goes to the children. "It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness"- Confucius

I was able to raise over 3000 USD."
Susanne Gellert has been a Rotarian for 7 years and was the Founding President of the Rotary Club of Wall Street. She currently serves as an Alternate RI Representative to the United Nations.
