SEPTEMBER 2016 UPDATE

OUR DISTRICT

A month full of successful club fundraisers, individual training, installations, inductions, partnership celebrations, meetings, PETS planning and the Zone 24/32 Institute.  The energy in the clubs is phenomenal in everything seen, heard or read about. Keep sending highlights to Cecily so she can continue to post the great photos, updates and information on the District Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/rotary7230 Send email with info to: rotary7230pr@gmail.com

In October, a draft District Directory with info from District website will be sent to all Club Presidents to review. If you need assistance on updating info, please call Club Runner (1-877-469-2582), our District Website vendor.

Club Visits? As requested by RI Pres. John Germ, the Assistant Governors are visiting each club and the Club Presidents and the AG's are planning Area gatherings. The purpose is twofold- economical for RI worldwide and creates opportunity for all the clubs in an area to have more fellowship /networking/ joint projects.  This is a change from what has been done in the past.  All area visits will be coordinated by the AG's and the Presidents over the next couple of months and will include brief remarks from the Presidents, AG and myself.

RI UPDATES

Our District is in Zone 32 along with 19 other Districts in Northern New England. The RI Director that has responsibility for our Zone is Dean Rohrs.  She also covers 16 Districts representing Canada (Zone 24). Please look at her monthly newsletter, Beyond Borders, as it is very informative.  http://tinyurl.com/BeyondBordersOct

Important Rezoning/Redistricting: Since North America (NA) has lost membership over the past 5 years and other parts of the world have gained, RI will rezone and NA will lose 2 RI Directors and NA districts will be merged/changed to accommodate this effective with Rotary Year 19-20.  These changes will be completed by November and until then, all DG nominations for 19-20 are on hold.

October "Rotarian" Highlight - Article on p. 23 - Elect to be civil-It's time to make politics less personal. Great article to reflect on as we listen to the last 30 days of national campaigning.

Zone Highlights - Last week's Zone Institute in Winnipeg, CA was a great forum to gather information on where there is room to grow and change, share ideas, make plans and prepare for the year ahead. It is primarily geared for District leadership members but open to all. Next year it is in Hartford, CT. Below are some highlights from the presentations/speakers:

- AG's and DG's - Ask us questions, we are a resource

- Attracting Members- What is first impression of club? Build value to membership, Strong online presence reflecting what you do, local leaders, how Rotary can help you and how you can help Rotary, cost of Rotary

- Obtain a free landing page for your website (www.doinggood.io)

- Objections Young Professionals have about typical Rotary clubs - Polio is not our passion, do you want me or my money, the style of the meeting is old fashioned

- Tell a 90 second story about why to donate to a cause, otherwise have fun, fellowship, food for a fundraiser

- New Rotary Legislation provides flexibility for a club but be careful it doesn't weaken a struggling club

- For Financial stability - need a budget, policy & procedures, financial reporting

Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
