NOVEMBER 2016 UPDATE

OUR DISTRICT

The Clubs have all been extremely active with special programs, service projects and fundraisers as you can see from the phenomenal coverage in both the mid month Club Happenings Newsletter (Editor Cecily Smith) and the social media coverage thanks to those who do a great job both taking pictures and posting with great captions. One big milestone was the 100th Birthday for Rotarian Bea Castiglia-Catullo at the The Bronx Rotary Club meeting. Congratulations!!

The District's Assistant Governors, Larry DeNoia, JT McFadden, Vinny Coakley, Mary Ciamarra, Mary Shackleton, Frank Scarangello and Barrett Dill, have also been very active with club visits and coordinating or completing certain area meetings. The month started with an Area 5 lively dinner meeting in Chinatown, continued with an Area 1 fun lunch meeting with the Peekskill Rotary Club and ended with an Area 6 heart warming Thanksgiving service project in Staten Island. Although area meetings do take a lot of coordination, the benefit of having the clubs getting together is clearly visible each time. TEAM - Together Everyone Accomplishes More. Additionally, it was very special to attend Rotary UN Day, an international experience at a small cost; a celebration for a Gift of Life child, Bright from Nigeria hosted by the Pelham Rotary Club and home hospitality by Bernadette and Frank Tripodi, and observing one of the weekly sessions of "Cooking From The Heart" Teenage Community Service Project hosted by the Port Chester/Rye Brook and led by Rotarian Chef Vinny Coakley.

Being that November is The Rotary Foundation Month, it is also an honor to recognize Immediate Past District Governor, Marilyn Masiero and her husband, Richard Gradkowski, for recently becoming Arch Klumph Society Members, for their cumulative contributions to The Rotary Foundation in excess of $250,000. Marilyn is very passionate about supporting scholarships, polio eradication and other programs and her generous gifts will enable The Rotary Foundation to reach so many people in need.  District 7230 is very proud to now have four Arch Klumph Society couples, who so generously support The Rotary Foundation's initiatives.

Lora Hugelmeyer, District Governor 2016-17

Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
