The Youth Exchange Scholarship Program is Here!

Rotary’s phenomenally successful program - a study abroad scholarship for High School students - is here!  A FREE information session is scheduled for September 13, 2018 at the Grinton Will Library Auditorium, 1500 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10710.  Attend the session, bring interested Rotarians, teenagers, and parents to learn about this great program!  And if you’d like to get involved - as counselor, youth exchange officer, or any other role - contact us.  For more information, see

Welcome to Rotary!

On August 8th District 7230 had our first training event, open to all Rotarians, Rotaractors, and prospects. Membership Chair Cecily Smith organized a new-member orientation program inspired by successful program from District 7930 (Boston area).  We presented various topics in a “speed dating” format. Newer Rotarians rotated around the room in groups of five to seven. Topics included the Foundation, Rotary History, Rotary Online, Fellowships, RAGS, and more. Everyone got the essential Rotary Basics book.  In addition to learning, we came together in fellowship over a casual dinner, and raffled of some Rotary swag - including a ticket to the District Conference and PH points. Thank you to “teachers” Taylor Eskew, Christian Rietzke, Wayne Charles, Mary Shackleton, and Cecily Smith.

We are planning additional Welcome to Rotary training and other events throughout the District, so stay tuned!

Change Is in the Air!

We’re making some changes to the website to make it more useful to you.  Soon, the website will feature news feeds of successful club projects, list of upcoming Club events and projects, a “Rotarian Leader,” and an informative/inspirational  “Video of the Week”.  All the relevant information and forms for Rotary Foundation Grants, as well as Grants which have already been approved.  And a lot more!  Will it actually become more useful?  “Yes,” if you . . .

Send us “action” photos of your successful projects (not a “pose for cameras” picture with a blown up check!), with a short writeup each, for the “News Feed.”  Enter your upcoming events and projects in the “Calendar”.  Let us know of Rotarians who successfully spearheaded a significant project that benefitted the Club or the Community for “Rotarian Leader.”  View the “Video of the Week”, play and discuss it at Club meetings for enhancing Rotary awareness and involvement. And learn about the mysterious Foundation Grants so that you can organize and implement projects using YOUR Foundation money.  And stay tuned as the changes keep coming!

“Rotarian Leader”

We are delighted to recognize Greg Soares (Rotary Club of Hamilton, Bermuda, 2013 - present; Pres. 2013-14), and our Assistant Governor for Area 7, as “Rotarian Leader” for the excellent leadership and organizational skills evident in the first-ever District Training Assembly in Bermuda.  Greg coordinated his Area Clubs, promoted and organized the Assembly, and ran it seamlessly (and within budget) - a textbook illustration of a well-organized program.  Almost a third of the membership of all the Bermuda Rotary Clubs were in attendance!  Congratulations, Greg, for a job well done!

A graduate of Warwick Academy and a former Rotary Youth Exchange Student (Thailand '89-'90), Greg has led many of Hamilton Club’s projects, including two international projects: “Stand With Congo” campaign (2016), and a “Bermuda inspired” water collection system in a Uganda orphanage.  A financial adviser by profession, Greg is also an avid traveler, and has lived in Hong Kong, London, Dublin and Lisbon.   He is married to Sandra; they have two children: Oliver (7) and Sierra (3).  We look forward to continued leadership and inspiration from Greg!
