2024-25 DG Newsletters
Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Friends of District 7230:
As we embrace November, I want to share a heartfelt reflection on our incredible October journey together. This past month has been nothing short of inspiring, filled with remarkable achievements, steadfast dedication, and a shared vision that is lighting up our district with enthusiasm and purpose. Here are some highlights of our October activities:
1. Club Visits and New Member Inductions:
Visiting clubs across the district has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my role. Meeting each of you, witnessing your commitment, and welcoming new members into our Rotary family has reaffirmed that together, we are unstoppable. Your passion for service is the true essence of our district!
2. Hurricane Helene Relief efforts:
Our District joined our Zone in consolidating our joint efforts to assist those affected by the devastating Hurricane Helene. Districts in Zone 33 were the most seriously distressed. We partnered with the Zone efforts to direct our District’s contributions, so the funds are quickly available for those who need it the most.
3. District Conference - Save the date:
We have secured an outstanding venue for our District Conference. Mark your Calendars for Saturday 5 April 2025. We will gather for an informative and fun event at Terrace on the Park in Flushing, Queens.
4. Membership Growth Celebration:
In line with our theme, “Together, We Transform,” I am thrilled to announce our continued membership growth. I draw your attention to our District Membership Newsletter which details our recent successes.
5. Engaging Meetings and Planning:
October brought us valuable gatherings, the PDG Council Meeting, AG and Deputy Governors Meeting, and the District Grants Committee Meeting. Each session was filled with ideas, plans, and the Rotary spirit that will fuel our upcoming District Conference. These meetings have laid the foundation for an even greater impact in our communities.
6. District Grants Approved:
It is heartening for me to note that The Rotary Foundation has approved all 16 Grants that Clubs in our District had applied for totaling $21,500. These include 3 Rotaract Clubs that applied for the first time. All the projects are innovative and will bring joy to many people. A particular project that is a shining example of Clubs working together, is the joint project of the 104-year-old Yonkers-East Yonkers Club and the 4-year-old East West Club that will provide 13 barrels of much-needed food for an orphanage in Haiti. Two other Clubs – The E-Club of Sunshine and the Rotary Club of Westchester also donated money and supplies towards this project.
7. PolioPlus Fundraising - Purple Pinky Donuts:
We took a sweet step forward in our PolioPlus efforts through our Purple Pinky Donut fundraiser. This initiative showed our district’s dedication to a polio-free world, with every contribution bringing us closer to that reality. Our raised funds combined with the matching grants from The Rotary Foundation and the Gates Foundation sent nearly $19,000 to the Polio Plus Fund. Thanks to DGN Maksud for a contribution of $1,000 towards this cause. Your support matters!
8. November is Rotary Foundation Month:
Each year, Rotary International highlights November as Rotary Foundation Month to emphasize the importance of and need for Rotarian support of The Rotary Foundation. Every dollar contributed by Rotarians funds humanitarian and educational programs and program operations. Clubs and districts receive Foundation grants to carry out worthy projects worldwide.
If Rotary is to be there to teach children to read, build wells, feed the hungry, care for the sick, shelter the poor; then I invite and encourage Every Rotarian to support the Annual Fund with a personal contribution, Every Year.
Each of you contributes to the Magic of Rotary. Together, we are making a profound difference, and I am honored to serve alongside such passionate, dedicated individuals. Thank you for your hard work, heart, and spirit.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Syed Alirahi
