Biography: DG Dr. Maksud Chowdhury
Dr. Maksud A. Chowdhury is the district governor of Rotary District 7230 for 2026-2027 and a charter member of the Rotary E-Club of Heritage, New York. As club president (2022-2024), he significantly expanded membership, chartered a community-based Rotaract Club, and helped establish the Rotary Satellite Club of Heritage NY Health. In 2023, he was honored as Rotary District 7230's "President of the Year."
Dr. Chowdhury and his wife, Rotarian Dr. Shamim Begum, are Paul Harris Fellows. Demonstrating their commitment to Rotary's mission, Dr. Chowdhury established a donor advised fund with The Rotary Foundation, making an initial contribution of $25,000.
As co-founder and president of PEDSI Global Health, Dr. Chowdhury has led international medical missions, health education programs, CPR training initiatives, disaster relief efforts and healthcare capacity-building projects in underserved communities worldwide.
He also served as National President of the Bangladesh Medical Association of North America (BMANA). A dedicated humanitarian, Dr. Chowdhury has led numerous district and global grant initiatives, CPR training programs, blood drives, and educational workshops. He has championed community health projects locally and internationally including advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill to protect children and youth from social media harms.
Dr. Chowdhury is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at St. George's University School of Medicine and serves as an attending pediatrician at Coney Island Hospital. Trained in Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, and the United States, he completed his pediatric residency at Lincoln Medical Center/Cornell University and a pediatric nephrology fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Dr. Chowdhury has authored and co-authored multiple medical publications and global health guidelines. A passionate educator, he has received several teaching awards and has dedicated his career to advancing pediatric healthcare, medical education, and emergency preparedness.
His numerous recognitions include the South Asian Community Service Award and Best Doctor Award.
Dr. Chowdhury and Dr. Shamim Begum are proud parents of two children and grandparents of two grandchildren. Their daughter, Dr. Naema Chowdhury. and son, Ryan Chowdhury, are both Rotarians, continuing the tradition of Service Above Self.
